What is Reflexology ?
Reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet, hands and face, which correspond to every gland and organ of the body. Through application of pressure on these reflexes, Reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation and helps promote the natural function of the related areas of the body.
How Does Reflexology Work?
Reflexology is highly effective in reducing stress and pain throughout the body by putting the client into a deeply relaxed state. In this state, the function of the nervous system shifts mainly into its optimal parasympathetic (involuntary) mode. When the body is in this state of relaxation, it has the ability to re-establish its balance and consequently its self-healing potential.
There are approximately 7,200 nerve endings on the bottom of each foot, which have connections through the sciatic nerve to the spinal cord and brain. By alleviating blockages by breaking up uric and lactic acid crystals deposits in the feet, the crystals are released into the blood stream and eliminated through the urinary system. This relieves the congestion in the body and the body functions flow smoothly, ultimately allowing the body systems to achieve refined internal peace and balance.
Zones of the Body
Reflexology identifies 10 vertical zones of the body, which link one part of the body to another. Five of these are located on the right side of the body and five are located on the left. Each zone travels the length of the body from the toes, fingers and top of the head.
Occasionally there are some people who show a crossover of sensation.

What Happens in a Reflexology Session?
Before your first treatment I will have sent you a detailed consultation form to fill in to understand your needs/hopes for Reflexology. This form will allow me time to go over any health concerns you might have or any contra-indications that there may be. Doing this before our appointment allows for a full hour for treatment and no disappointment if there is a contra-indication that wouldn't allow treatment to proceed.
On arrival you will be greeted and brought to the tranquility of the treatment room where we will have a quick chat before you can get comfy in the reclining chair where you can remove your shoes and socks, if have foot reflexology. Or if you are having facial reflexology you will be asked to remove any jewellery if needed. Then the treatment can begin. This is usually very relaxing. Sometimes you may feel some points are tender, this is perfectly normal and can just be some congestion around the area of the body the point represents.
Your treatment will last an hour. It is important to drink plenty of water after your treatment to keep hydrated to assist the body in re-balancing.
If you are coming to reflexology for something specific it is usual to come weekly for 4-6 weeks to feel the most benefit.
